Billie Jean VanHook Obituary

Billie Jean Tipton VanHook, 78, of Cynthiana, KY., died Sun., March 12, 2017, at Cedar Ridge Health Campus. She was born in Springfield, Ohio, Dec. 11, 1938, to the late William Walker and Blanche Park Tipton. Mrs. VanHook was a graduate of Midway College, University of KY and Eastern University. She was a retired educator for the Harrison County School System, for over 30 years, where she taught on the elementary and high school level and the last 10 years of her career as Guidance Counselor at the Harrison County Middle School. She was a member of Cynthiana Christian Church, where she served as deacon and sang in the church choir, and the DAR. She was nominated, "Teacher of the Year", by the Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. VanHook was past president of the Habitat for Humanity and was an alumni board member of Midway College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carrolle VanHook and a sister, Patricia Tipton Esrael. Survivors include a son, Robert Embry (Sandy) VanHook, Harrison Co.KY., two daughters, Beth (Greg) Coleman, Butler, ILL, and Patricia (Colby) Gaines, Winchester, KY. grandchildren, Michael Todd Brown, Madelyn Carrolle Sterrett, John Embry VanHook, Benjamin Parke VanHook, Caroline Elizabeth VanHook, Logan Matthew Gaines, John Patrick Gaines and Trenton Robert Walker Gaines. Services will be conducted 10 AM Mon., March 20, 2017, at Cynthiana Christian Church, by Dr. Larry W. Bishop, with burial in Battle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Sunday, at the church. Memorials may be made to Cynthiana Christian Church, Hospice of the Bluegrass or Harrison County Family Resource and Youth Service Center.
