Walden Pickett Penn, 99, of Cynthiana, KY., died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Cedar
Ridge Health Care Campus.
Mr. Penn was born in Anderson, Ind., September 21, 1907, to the late William Alex and
Zella Jane Pickett Penn. He earned his B A and Masters Degree from the University of
Kentucky. Mr. Penn was a retired Educator having been Principal and basketball coach
of Connersville School and was a retired Superintendent of Cynthiana City Schools and
Harrison County Schools. He served as Field Director for the American Red Cross during
World War II.
Mr. Penn was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, Rotary
Club, Kentucky Education Association, Retired Teachers Association, Ky. Association of
School Administrators, U of K Alumni Association, Admiral of the Great Fleet of Pleasure
Boats, Department of Natural Resources and St. Andrews Masonic Lodge. Mr. Penn was a
Ky Colonel.
His wife of 65 years, Wilma Caldwell Penn and two Brothers, William Otis Penn and Cromer
Lou Penn preceded his in death.
Survivors include his son, James Walden Penn and daughter in law Sharon Insko Penn.
three grandchildren, Kevin, Melissa and Chandler Penn, Two Step grandchilden, Jharon
McVey and Steff Combs, Three great grandchildren and Three step great grandchidlren.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be conducted 11 A.M. Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral
Home, by Reverend Jimmy Owens, with burial in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home.
Masonic Services will be 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
