Susan Crawford Blackburn, age 80, passed away peacefully in her home in Sadieville, KY, on August 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 7, 1944 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to the late Alexander & Thea Robison Crawford, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. Susan was a talented artist, author, gardener, and creator of the first tobacco doll. She saw beauty in everything, from the shape of a stick, to hanging icicles. She loved nature, collecting rocks, quilting, and she had a passion for watercolors. She would stop and use anything to draw on when the urge came to create. She retired from HMH, where she worked as a medical transcriptionist, dedicating her career to the service of others. 

Susan was a proud and faithful Christian, and her unwavering faith guided her throughout her life. She is now rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Susan leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Hugh Saffell Blackburn Jr. of Sadieville; and her children, Joshua S. Blackburn and his wife Barbara of Sadieville, Elizabeth Blackburn Marsh and her husband Carl of Lexington, and Benjamin Hugh Blackburn and his wife Jodi of Means. She was also a beloved grandmother known as “Ninnie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Sarah Blackburn Lancaster, Molly Ann Thea Minor, Samuel A. Minor, Henley Glee Minor, Colton Taud Minor, Ella Sue Minor, Bennett Ryan Minor, Thea Lanette Minor, Annabel Lin Blackburn Napier, Rebekah Marie Blackburn Ingles, Benjamin Levi Blackburn, Daniel Luke Blackburn, Elin Grace Napier, Nicholas Lee Napier, Jackson Andrew Blackburn, Shyanne Skye Ingles, and Dawson Thomas Ingles.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Samuel A. Blackburn, and her sister, Patricia Crawford Gaskin.

Susan’s legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 26th at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Bro. Joshua Blackburn with burial to follow in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Benjamin Blackburn, Daniel Blackburn, Joshua Blackburn, Levi Blackburn, Justin Ingles, Carl Marsh and Justin Napier.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. Monday until the time of service.
