Martin Luther Carr, 73, of Cynthiana, Ky., died Mon., June 18, 2007, at Harrison Memorial
Hospital.
He was born in Harrison Co., Ky., June 5, 1934, to the late Milton Meek and Delilah Criswell
Carr. Mr. Carr was a member of the Benson United Methodist Church where he had served as
Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. He was President of the Benson Cemetery Board and
Instrumental in rebuilding the Benson United Methodist Church after a fire in 2005. He was a member
of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and former Rotary Club member. His educational
background included Georgetown College, BA University of Kentucky, Masters and Specialist Degrees
in Educational Administration, Indiana University, Doctorate in Educational Administration. Graduate
School Teaching, Eastern Kentucky University, Rank 1 Classes, School Finance & Law, Elementary &
Secondary Curriculum, Buildings & Grounds, Superintendencey. He served as teacher and principal
in Harrison County. Superintendent of Schools in Williamstown, retired Superintendent of Harrison County Schools,
Interim High School Principal in Bracken Co., Knox County, Interim Superintendent, Bath County,
Harlan County, Knox County, Breckinridge County, Woodford County and Floyd County,
Interim Assistant Superintendent in charge of Finance, Boone County, Independent Contractor
& Consultant, Knox County, Scholastic Review Audits, Magoffin, Pike, Spencer & Nicholas Counties,
and Tribunal Hearing ADM Training. Mr. Carr was an honorbly discharged Army Veteran.
Survivors include is wife, Mary Shropshire Carr, His children, James Martin (Angie) Carr,
Susan Russell (Jim) Rogers, Mary Cathryn (Steve) Slucher and John Milton (Beth) Carr,
one sister, Ruth (Gerri) Poynter, Grandchildren, Robert Lincoln Jacobs, Jakob Clifford Slucher,
Kelsey Mae Carr, Mariah Criswell Carr, Nickolas Russell Slucher, Grant James Carr, Haley
Ann Carr, Lukas-Carr Slucher, Frances Alexis Lanza and Sara-Ella Shropshire Carr, Niece,
Donna (Harold) Harpe, nephew James Milton Poynter, sister in laws, Phyllis Cooper and Martha (Jim)
Barnes.
Services will be conducted 11 A.M. Thurs., June 21, 2007, at Cynthiana Christian Church, with
burial in Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Wed. at the Drake-Whaley-
McCarty Funeral Home, and after 9 A.M. Thurs. at the Cynthiana Christian Church. Memorials
may be made to the Benson United Methodist Church Building Fund, in care of Susan Carr Rogers,
4662 Ky Highway 1032 E., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.
Pallbearers are Steve Slucher, Jim Rogers, Lincoln Jacobs, Jakob Slucher, Nicholas Slucher, Harold Harpe, Harland Hatter, Buddy Poynter, Lukas Slucher and Grant Carr.
