Maurice Baxton “Mac” McGlone, 87, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Cedar Ridge Health Campus.
Born February 25, 1938 in Carter County to the late Maurice & Virgie Sizemore McGlone, he began his childhood education with his mother as his teacher in a one room school he affectionately referred to as the University of McGlone Creek. He graduated in 1955 from Carter High School and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Morehead State University. Mac had a long career in public education as a teacher, baseball & basketball coach, longtime principal at Eastside Elementary School, and retiring as Assistant Superintendent. He always enjoyed his farm, tinkering with tractors, UK sports and most of all, his grandchildren. A US Army veteran, he was also a longtime member of Indian Creek Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon & Elder.
Survivors include his wife Mildred Ruth McGlone; son, Maury (Michelle) McGlone, Ewing, VA; daughter, Melanie (Jeff) Morris, Georgetown; 5 grandchildren: Maurice Nathan (Robin) McGlone, Rachel Elise (Chris) Burnette, Jesse Isaac (Megan) McGlone, Abigail Christine (Josh) Manuel & Nicholas Allen Morris; and 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden Noah Gauck & Brody Tyler Manuel, along with a close cousin, Phillip Lee McGlone.
Also preceding him in death was his beloved wife of 50 years, Aleta Jane Mann McGlone; 3 brothers: Ray, Wade & Carlos McGlone; and a sister, Betty Rose.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, March 2nd at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home officiated by Sammy Harris. Private family burial will be held in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be his grandchildren and Phillip Lee McGlone.
Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday.
