Joseph Franklin Schanding, 94, husband of the late Hazel Gaunce Schanding, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Bourbon Heights in Paris.
Born August 31, 1927 in Harrison County to the late W.T. & Zelphia Morrison Schanding, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired employee of Bluegrass Industries/Jockey International and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Elaine (Gary) Broderick; a son, Bradley (Bonita) Schanding, both of Nicholas County; 3 grandsons: Wes (Sarah) Broderick, Colin (Lauren) Broderick & David (Carla) Schanding; 2 granddaughters: Elizabeth Hughes (Trevor Fuller) and Kathy Jo Rorer (Shawn White); 2 sisters, Judy Blethen & Ann Chapman; a brother, Donald Schanding; a sister-in-law, Juanita Ritchie; and several great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
Also preceding him in death were a grandson, Andy Schanding; a sister, Betty Howard; and 8 brothers: Paul, George, Clarence, Charles, E.T., Leroy, Eugene & Raymond Schanding.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church by Rev. Daniel Burch and Gary Broderick. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Caleb Broderick, Colin Broderick, Wes Broderick, Dray Hughes, Mason Rorer, Blaine Schanding, David Schanding and Elliot Schanding.
Honorary bearers will be the members of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon Saturday until the time of service.
The family respectfully asks that masks be worn while at the church.
