John Larry Douglas, husband of Dorothea Amelia Simms Douglas, retired banker and farmer
and a life long resident of Cynthiana and Harrison County, died at his residence on May 17,
2008, after a long illness.
He was born on January 10, 1928, and was the son of the late William Duncan and Louise
Toadvine Douglas. Fifty-seven years ago he was united in marriage to Dorothea Simms Douglas,
who survives along with their two children, Cynthia Tod Douglas Rorer (Michael) of Ft. Mitchell,
Kentucky, and John Simms Douglas (Jocelyn) of Lexington, Kentucky.
Other survivors include a sister, Sue Evelyn Douglas Shirley (Allan) of Leesburg, Florida, two
grandchildren, Mary Ella Rorer and John Duncan Douglas, a nephew, Michael Allan Shirley and
a niece, Lara Tod Deaton.
He was an active member of the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church, retired vice president
of the National Bank of Cynthiana, treasurer of the Harrison County Water Association and an
avid horseback rider. He served his country for four years in the United States Air Force during
the Korean Conflict.
Services will be conducted 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the First United Methodist
Church, Cynthiana, Ky. Friends may call at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home from
5 to 8 P.M. Monday, and after 9 A.M. Tuesday at the Church. Burial will follow in the
Battle Grove Cemetery.
