James "Chapie" Mastin, Jr. Obituary

James Chapel “Chapie” Mastin, Jr., 83, husband of the late Rachel Drake Mastin, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026 at Cedar Ridge Health Campus in Cynthiana.

Born September 12, 1942 in Harrison County, he was a 1960 graduate of Harrison County High School, a lifelong farmer and longtime member of Indian Creek Christian Church, where he had served as Deacon and Elder. Farming was Chapie’s life and he was involved in agriculture in many ways, such as being a Harrison County Farm Bureau Director and on the Harrison County Fair Board.

Surviving are 3 daughters: Amy (Robert) Palmer, Julie (David) Asher & Sally (Ben) McDonald; a daughter-in-law, Kelly Richie Mastin; 4 grandchildren: Emma Palmer, Reese (Alex) Asher, Ben Scott McDonald & Mason McDonald; a niece and nephew, Katie Donovan & Jamie (Mary) Donovan;  and a brother-in-law, Mickey Monica.

Also preceding him in death were his father, James Chapel Mastin, Sr.; his mother, Lockie Smith Mastin Havicus; his son, James Chapel “Chapie” Mastin, III; and his sister, Carol Ann Monica.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 29th at Indian Creek Christian Church by Pastor C.J. Epperson and Pastor Adam Wilson with burial to follow in Battle Grove Cemetery.  

Casketbearers will be Reese Asher, Jamie Donovan, Ben Scott McDonald, Mason McDonald, John Rawlings and Richard Rawlings.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Indian Creek Christian Church or the Harrison County Fair Board.
