David Dawayne Walker Obituary

David Dawayne Walker of Cynthiana Kentucky passed away peacefully on Saturday July 13, 2024, at 76 years of age at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born, October 6, 1947 in Spokane, Washington to the late James Joseph Walker and Elsie Evelyn Renfro. He graduated from Campbell County High School in Alexandria, Kentucky in 1965. He served in the Army from November 1966 to November 1969, serving as a medical corpsman during the Vietnam War, then later in an Okinawa Hospital. He served his country honorably, and always very proud of being a medic while in the Army.

David married Judy Lee Runion on New Year's Eve of 1970 in Florence, Kentucky. They and their four children lived in Kentucky, Indiana, and Alabama. In the fall of 2021, David and Judy moved to Cynthiana, Kentucky. David loved traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, and visiting family and friends.

David was mentor for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always stressing the importance of being a good person in your heart and doing your best in everything you do in life. His life reflected the importance of being part of a family and the rewards it gave. I asked my children to describe in one or two words how they would describe to others their father. One of the words chosen was “unconditional love”. This is a “love” given to others with no strings attached and needs or wants nothing more than seeing their happiness. The family is comforted by knowing that his kind spirit is still watching proudly over his family as he has done all their lives. He lived life to the fullest, every day being a “good” person to all he encountered. David saw good in everyone and wanted only happiness for everyone. He always said that everyone can learn at least one new thing every day. Living in Cynthiana, Kentucky he learned how to salt cure country hams.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Walker of Cynthiana; a sister, Evelyn Geiger of Cynthiana; four children: Elizabeth (Doug) Maggard of Cynthiana, Anthony (Marie) Walker of Cynthiana, Sara Walker of Alabama, and Franklin Walker of Colorado; ten grandchildren: Malachi, Kaleb, Cloey, Annabelle, Elijah, Colin (Allie), Dougie, Hayden, London, and James; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Estella.

David was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michael and Brittney; and a brother-in-law, Douglas Geiger.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Drake-Whaley-McCarty FH.
