James Chapel “Chapie” Mastin, III, 62, husband of Kelly Richie Mastin, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Baptist Health-Lexington.
Born November 12, 1963 in Harrison County to James Chapel Mastin, Jr., of Cynthiana, and the late Rachel Drake Mastin, he was a 1982 graduate of Harrison County High School and a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, where he majored in Math and Music. Chapie was a longtime educator, having spent the majority of his 33-year career teaching at Woodford County High School. He loved watching UK sports, music, and playing the piano. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
In addition to his wife and father, Chapie is also survived by 3 stepchildren: Benjamin Brooks, Matthew Brooks & Elizabeth Brooks; and 3 sisters: Amy (Robert) Palmer, Julie (David) Asher & Sally (Ben) McDonald; along with a niece & 3 nephews: Emma Palmer, Reese (Alex) Asher, Ben Scott McDonald & Mason McDonald.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 27th at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Ernie Perry with burial to follow in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be David Asher, Thad Judy, Larry Kendall, Ben McDonald, Robert Palmer and Tyrone Tyra.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday.
