Charles R. "Charlie" Cooper, 92, widower of Norma Whitaker Cooper, passed from this life on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
Owner of Cooper Wholesale for almost 60 years, Charlie and Norma were vital parts of the Cynthiana business community and their church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. and Emma Ravenscraft Cooper, his wife, Norma Cooper, and two brothers, Darrell and Donnie Cooper.
Survivors include his sister, Vernice Cooper Varner, Monroe, Michigan, three children, Jan (Grady) Stumbo of Hindman, Rhonda (Steve) Strawzell of Cynthiana, Chuck (Teresa) Cooper, of Versailles, seven grandchildren, Marc Anderson, Jessica Stumbo, Todd Stumbo, Crista Strawzell Crowdy, Kelsi Strawzell, Caryn Cooper Ray, Megan Cooper Thacker, and nine great grandchildren.
Charlie was an honorably discharged, WWII Army Veteran, and a very active member of the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church, for almost 70 years, including one stretch when he did not miss Sunday School for 65 years.
Beyond his family and his Lord, fishing was the love of his life. For many years he enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada and fishing in a local bass club, but Charlie never lost his love of fishing in the South Licking River.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, May 1, 2017, from 5-8 PM at the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church.
A celebration of Charlie's life will 10:30 Am, Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church, with Pastors Ted Beam and Chuck Cooper officiating. Burial will follow, with Military Honors, in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 307 Cyn., KY 41031, Hindman UMC, 27 Coskebury Dr. Hindman, KY 41822, or Daybreak Community Church, 210 E. Reynolds Rd. Lex., KY 40517.
Pallbearers: Grady Stumbo, Steve Strawzell, Marc Anderson, Todd Stumbo, Logan Anderson, Chris Ray, Bryan Thacker, Greg Kress, Richard Crowdy and Jonathan Ward.
Honorary Pallbearers: Douglas McIntosh, Lee Hatcher, Michael Cooper, Gene Lewis Varner, Douglas Edward McIntosh, Randy McIntosh, Rickie Humphries, Mike Gibson, Kenny Fuller, Dustin Rose, Bill Doan, Ed Herrington and Larry Franklin.
