Dorothea Amelia Simms Douglas, 80, a lifelong resident of Harrison Co, KY, died Wed July 28, 2010. She was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of Ottis...
Dorothea Amelia Simms Douglas, 80, a lifelong resident of Harrison Co, KY, died Wed July 28, 2010. She was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of Ottis Simms and Mary Anna Kuster Simms. Mrs. Douglas was a graduate of Connersville and attended the University of Kentucky. Her husband for over 57 years, John Larry Douglas, preceded her in death in 2008. She was an employee of the National Bank of Cynthiana, farmer and homemaker. Mrs. Douglas was an active member of the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church. She was the regent for the Cynthiana Chapter of the DAR and state regent for the Kentucky DAR and during her tenure as State Regent was instrumental in beginning the restoration project for Duncan Tavern in Paris, KY. Survivors include a daughter Cynthia Tod Douglas (Michael) Rorer of Ft. Mitchell, KY, a son John Simms (Jocelyn) Douglas of Lexington, KY, her grandchildren Mary Ella Rorer and John Duncan Douglas. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Ann Simms Deaton and a niece Lara Tod Deaton, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday July 30, 2010 at the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. James Owens. Burial will follow the service in the Battle Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday July 29, 2010 at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, and after 10:00 AM Friday at the Church. Memorials may be made to the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church or Duncan Tavern.
Pallbearers: Dewey Kuster, III, Teddy Kuster, William Addison Thomson, Addison Thomson, Dr. Wilbur Wilson, Joe Frank Ireland, Alex Barnett and James Chapel Mastin, III.
