Mrs. Mary Gene "Genie" O’Neal, formerly Eva Gene Harrington, 93, passed away January 24th, 2018 with her daughter Connie present, while under hospice care at their home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Mrs. O’Neal was born Oct. 21st, 1924 in Cynthiana, KY to the late Edgar and Viola Harrington. She attended Hillsborough High School in Ohio, along with her older brother Edgar "Bud" Harrington (d.1995). During WWII, she served by working in local military offices and factories, as well as in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps for the duration.
After her family relocated to Florida, she worked as a dance instructor and supervisor at Arthur Murray's original dance studio in Ft. Lauderdale. She was married to William Henry "Bill" O’Neal, pilot, on January 14, 1950, until his passing in 1994. The couple entered and won a yacht race during their honeymoon, and enjoyed dancing well into their golden years. They lived various places such as Chicago, IL; San Antonio, TX; and Dominican Republic, before settling back in the South Florida area.
Mrs. Mary Gene O'Neal is survived by two sons and one daughter: Michael "Mike", Connie, and Charles "Chuck", all currently residing in South Florida; and seven grandchildren, ranging in ages from 9 to 46 years of age.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 31st, 2018 at the Battle Grove Cemetery Meditation Building with burial to follow.
